Perennial Cornflower

18th June, 2008

Perennial Cornflower
I was told you should marry a girl with small hands because small hands make your wadger look bigger. Thanks for that advice Dad but there’s no need for tiny digits here because this lovely Centaurea genuinely is a big ‘un with no enhancement required.

Up to 4 inches across makes this perennial cornflower Centaurea Montana ‘Parhams’ a real winner, the colour being a nice purple with pink overtones is also unusual and well worth a place in your border especially as given full sun it will tolerate the poorest of soils.

Centaurea is named after the legendary Centaur ‘Chiron’ who used the plant to heal a wound in his foot from one of Hercules arrows.
