Satomi

This image of autumnal colour is Cornus kousa 'Satomi' a relatively recent introduction from Japan of the, sometimes called 'Chinese Dogwood'.

The flowering cornus are great favourites of mine and this selection with its strong purple-red colouration remains a dramatic focal point for several weeks at this time of year, couple this to the many weeks it is bedecked in deep pink bracts from late spring through early summer and you have a classic class plant that more than earns its keep in your garden and will be the envy of everyone in your neighbourhood who is not a total nob.
