A Moose in the Hoose?

29th October, 2008

A Moose in the Hoose?
Meet Sarah Palin, the Alaskan moose skinning former beauty queen who has been governor of Alaska for 2 years, here showing the skills that make her ideally qualified to potentially have her finger on the nuclear button. For me it is not about the killing of the animal, if we eat meat then so be it, rather it is the choice of (hunting, shooting, & fishing) 'killing stuff' and 'guns' that are her listed hobbies. Add to this that in her opinion global warming is not a man made problem, there should be no freedom to abortion, and the world was made by god in six days. The words egocentric and megalomaniac and powerfully self obsessed come to mind, I wish they didn't, but this woman kicks my negative instincts into overdrive 'She'll sell her story like a preacher, to gather glory in their eyes' plays over and over in my head whenever I see that smirking self-righteous expression. When Americans come to vote and they're in the privacy of their polling booth with pen and paper and choice in front of them, I sincerely hope they will not give in to any subliminal thoughts of not voting for a black man, but I fear it will be so. I fear all the fine words of racial equality and inclusiveness are just that, 'words' I feel if some right wing white supremacy nutter doesn't end it all for Obama, the electorate themselves will prove too fickle. I have never ever wanted to be so wrong on a political issue, and it's not even my country!

To elect a man regardless of his race, culture, or background is a message of incredible power from a country that in many respects represents the idea of a free world. It is potentially a clear and concise message to every bigoted, hypocritical race that would paint us racist, and to every Christian, Muslim or other religion of intolerance out there it poses a serious question...Could, would, and will you do this? Or are you always to be bound by racial, sectarian or family/class/caste elitism? Not least I would ask this of ourselves here in the British Isles because we are way off the beam on that one. Could Prince William marry a black atheist? Could we have a black prime minister? Somehow I suspect the establishment would be less than pleased.
