Senkaki (again)
4th November, 2008
Today's image is harking back to late summer a little, but never mind, it's been such a miserable overcast day a little colourful reminiscence wont go far wrong. This is Acer palmatum 'Senkaki' in all its golden glory, of course its main feature is the red steams throughout winter, hence it carries the common name of the 'Coral Bark Maple', however, as this picture shows, it colouration should never be underestimated. In the background to the right is the graceful birch 'Betula ermanii'whose bark as the tree matures becomes a creamy-white overlaid with shades of pink, the underplanting is with various species of 'Rodgersia' which works well as this area is where the spring rises in the garden, so consequently it is evenly moist all year, I've used a hosta or two also.
