Goodbye Sarah
6th November, 2008
There was a gloomy haze filling the air this morning, probably all those effigies of burning Catholics atop a million bonfires last night. It has been a rather murky sort of day with a low cloud cover and intermittent mizzle. The one redeeming feature this morning was taking this image from my bedroom window; the trees are in their final flourish of russet colours, primarily beech, but always remarkably reassuring in their constancy and comforting in their regularity. If we ever lose the trees we lose our world and there's no spare in the boot.
Well done America for looking forward and striking a blow for freedom, democracy and right. Perhaps the world will reflect on you more kindly and nations will start to look at themselves with a more critical eye, but I can't help feeling sorry for John McCain who seemed a thoroughly decent man, just too old and representative of the past, not a crime, but sadly not his time.
And well done Sarah Palin. You lost and everyone's glad, there is just a little stain of lipstick in the Alaskan snow where once stood a raging pit-bull before it disappeared up its own half-brained arse with a timid tearful whimper. Goodnight and hopefully goodbye Sarah.
