Christmas Tree Oddity
How's this for a weird Christmas tree? Believe me it gets even weirder with age which you can check out via google. Just type in 'Picea abies inversa' or 'Picea abies pendula' then click on the images tab. You'll be amazed at the dramatic form this pine can take. Achieving these forms is easily done by training the leader, though even leaving the plant to its own devices would create a definite talking point in your garden. Easy to grow and happy in most soils pendula has been around but not widely grown since about 1855. I will be propagating (grafting) from this plant February coming and plants should be available a year or so after that. The plant is variable as there are many forms about, fortunately mine is a particularly fine, strong, and sought after clone...I knew its mother well! You need to put your name down for a plant as i'll only be doing twenty per year, the cost will ??12.50 payable when your plant is ready, though if you change your mind it wont matter as demand will outstrip supply. I am just offering it to Journal readers first, in fact i'll do more of that in the future with rarer plants, not a hard sell but an oppertunity for visitors and guests to this site to aquire more unusual items.
