Stuck Up....1/2
10th June, 2010
The Sticky or Red Catchfly is a lovely plant, forming neat mounds of tufty foliage with large clusters of pink flowers during May and June, it is related to the Campions (Silene) and is a very worthwhile and interesting plant bearing the botanical name "Lychnis viscaria"
The plant is said to increase the disease resistance of surrounding plants. Extract from Lychnis viscaria contains a relatively high amount of brassinosteroids, these have a proven positive effect on the growth of other plants. In Germany the extract is allowed for use as a plant strengthening substance, hence the often used name of "Red German Catchfly" in some publications.
