Two Choice Maples
19th June, 2010
Two beautiful Japanese maples set on the streamside at Eggleston Hall Gardens. On the left is Acer Shirasawaeneum Aureum, the "Full Moon Maple" while on the right is Acer palmatum Red Pygmy.
Both are fully hardy and are distinguished by unusual leaf shapes. The drama is also in the bright green and gold spring colour of the former and the bronze autumn colour of the latter. Those wishing to start a collection would do well to begin with this pair, which while not rare are neither standard or run of the mill varieties. Both do well in containers.
