Acer palmatum 'Bloodgood'

Acer palmatum 'Bloodgood' (Japanese Maple)

Common Name

Japanese Maple

Soil

Any non alkaline soil. Correct light more important

Aspect

Sun

Height

12-18ft

Action and Timing

An excellent old favourite and the standard by which every red-leaved form should be measured, the black-red foliage does not bronze out like some reds and the autumn colour is bright crimson with a delicate translucence that is magical on a sunny day. The fruits are bright red and highly prominent, creating a wonderful contrast with the typically palmate foliage. Bloodgood is upright in habit with a mature potential of 18ft preferring a sunny position for best effect.

Nursery Notes

Grafted plant.

Opinion

Good reliable old standard that set the benchmark for purple palmate maples.
