Acer palmatum 'Red Pygmy'

Acer palmatum 'Red Pygmy' (Japanese Maple)

Common Name

Japanese Maple

Soil

Any non alkaline soil. Correct light more important

Aspect

Sun or partial shade

Height

8ft

Action and Timing

Excellent form to 8ft in any light with bright red-maroon straplike leaves that hold good colouration through to late summer when purple develops into bright bronze with green undertones; This is one of my favourite maples.

Nursery Notes

Grafted plant.

Opinion

I like to see red pygmy in a border or beneath a larger tree. Mine sits quietly beneath an old apple tree and looks stunning every year. IOne of the last to colour up I find.
