Acer palmatum 'Tana'

Acer palmatum 'Tana' (Japanese Maple)

Common Name

Japanese Maple

Soil

Any non alkaline soil. Correct light more important

Aspect

Sun or partial shade

Height

12-18ft

Action and Timing

The name means “shelves” and refers to the layered effect of the beautiful light yellow foliage, each leaf lobe tipped in a distinct purple red that blends nicely down the leaf edges also. Tana is a strong upright grower to 18ft and the autumn colouration of red and gold can dominate the landscape in any light.

Nursery Notes

Grafted plant.

Opinion

Superb. One of my favourite forms that deserves to be better known, not only for the tabulated effect of the leaves, but for the colours also.
