Acer palmatum 'Viridis' (Dissectum)

Acer palmatum 'Viridis' (Dissectum) (Japanese Maple)

Common Name

Japanese Maple

Soil

ordinary soil, neutral to acid.

Aspect

Partial shade

Height

8-10ft...in time.

Action and Timing

A beautifully fresh looking maple with lacy dissected foliage all summer, followed by shades of gold with splashes of scarlet during autumn

Nursery Notes

This is a fine old cultivar, however there is some dispute as to its original form because there are so many other named cascading green maples, these are often equally as good. All plants are grafted.

Opinion

Without doubt a worthwhile maple.....some growers now graft high up on a rootstock to accentuate the cascade. I have never done this but surely now wish I had. Given part shade viridis will stay a fresh green all summer, in full sun, while it will be fine it may develop some burn on the leaves and become somewhat duller of leaf.
