Huge, showy flowers up to six inches across and long strap like petals surrounding the large chocolate brown central cone.
 

Nursery Notes

Seed is best as there is not always a lot of material for division. Root cuttings might be worth a try.
 

Opinion

Interesting as opposed to beautiful perhaps, I do like this plant, though its hardiness is somewhat suspect in the wrong place, probably because It comes from Arkansas and the plains of Texas so likes the sun. I have had no trouble for the past five years and while not bulking up greatly it is certainly holding its own and reliably flowers in summer.
