Common Name

Plantain Lily

Soil

Moist but not wet

Morning sun then shade ideal

Height

18 inches high x 3ft wide

Action and Timing

Pale chartreuse leaves become ivory then bright yellow, then pale green, wide irregular margins of dark olive green with some streaking towards the midrib, they are slightly undulating and twisted and strongly veined. Flowers are pale lavender.

Nursery Notes

Propagate by division. It is worth noting that whirlwind is colour susceptible to temperature and age.

Opinion

A useful hosta that is vigorous and exceptional as ground cover. There is always a degree of uncertainty around whirlwind because its always so sensitive to light and that can vary with each years weather, its very much a movable feast, whatever you get will be great but you can't be sure what's on the f***ing menu.
