Kirengeshoma palmata

Kirengeshoma palmata (Japanese Waxbell)

Common Name

Japanese Waxbell

Soil

Moist and lime free

Aspect

Partial or dappled shade

Height

About 3-4ft each way

Action and Timing

Fleshy creamy yellow flowers are borne from late summer until the fist frosts.

Nursery Notes

Needs semi-shade and no lime to thrive, seems to like leafmould as a mulch or general top dressing (what doesn't). Propagation by seed or division of a few new shoots CAREFULLY in spring.

Opinion

A wonderful plant if you have the right soil. In flower at a pretty much quiet time of the year. If you have a woodland garden or heavily planted shrubbery, this provides something akin to its natural habitat. There is nothing like turning the corner on a winding woodland path to be confronted by a good clump of Kirengeshoma. Heaven in a glade.
